Yeah yeah I know...

It must strike one as absurd; the fact that the last time I posted, it was another season.
I would be lying if I claimed that I was too busy to attend to Enigma; I just...didn't know what to write.

I just didn't have anything to say.

But now, with less than three weeks till school starts again, I must return to the habit of updating my blog.

I stayed home this summer, and the chief of my time was spent in volunteering at the local hospital, reading, dancing, and attempting to become a self declared gym rat.
I hadn't really planned on volunteering...it was more of a desperate attempt at staying outside la casa for as long as I could.

I can clearly picture my first task at the nursing unit where I spent my Monday and Wednesday mornings:
An elderly lady wanted to use the phone but couldn't reach it without having to get out of her bed. So, I went to her room, which reeked of an unexplainable odor, found her phone and gave it to her.
But after I did so, the lady called me back..."I'm filthy!" she said.

Cool. I'm Shreya.

"I need my diaper changed!"

Having discerned the secret behind the aroma, my face turned pale. "I'm sorry maam, I guess I'll go tell someone," I said.

But that didn't satisfy her. "Here let me show you,"
"No no, it's okay maam."
"No, look!"
So I did.

That was my first glimpse at the not-so-glamorous career of medical proffesionals. I always knew that working in the healthcare sector was far from easy, but before my summer at the hospital, I never knew how stressful, demanding, and tedious the life of a doctor or nurse really is. To have to sacrifice so many years in training, just to be able to sacrifice many more hours to saving the lives of others is nothing less than noble.
Regardless of my first task (which has now earned me the name "DiaperGirl" amongst my immediate family), volunteering at a hospital was very rewarding. From feeding a blind patient, to running blood samples to the lab to be evaluated immediately, I felt like I was making use of my lazy summer mornings. Volunteering has made me proud and added much to my character.

And now that I have, with much effort, gotten back to Enigma...you must reward me by telling me about your summer!

  1. I think you are so inspirational! You are so right, volunteering is something to be proud of, how beautifully said! Shreya, I smiled so much reading this. :) You are a great role model, and someday you can do whatever profession you want, and I know you will be great at it.

okay okay, now I have to post something about my summer... not as exciting as yours! haha. <3

  2. Mirandy,
You are so so kind, and inspiring in your own way. I love how you "see only the good in other people"; that in itself is so incredibly virtuous..

Actually ever since I read that statement, I've been trying to step back and learn from others achievements, rather than compare myself to them..thanks so much!

I'm looking forward to reading about your summer, and your first day of school!!!
