Spring Break
Day Three of Spring Break:
I awoke this morning to the noise of my parents arguing over trivial matters.
After my now daily yoga session outside on my back porch, I studied the online Louisiana Class D & E Driver's Guide.
I was supposed to go to the DMV today, but I couldn't get past page 44 of the 90 page manual that I'm supposed to familiarize myself with in order to get a learner's permit.
Then, after my shower, I felt like baking cookies.
I know what you're thinking, SHREYA...BAKE?! CALL AN AMBULANCE.
Or your nearest Poision Control Center.
But hey hey hey, did you know that supermodel Karlie Kloss loves to bake?
I know that has nothing to do with my lack of a knack to stick things in ovens without triggering a conflagration, but you know me...
If Karlie Kloss does something, I have to try it too!
And then I found this recipe on the back on my mom's Gold Medal Whole Wheat Flour bag for Whole-Wheat Chocolate Chip Cookies; I cut the recipe in half and used almonds instead of chocolate chips.
Guess what people? My cookies were not a total failure!

Shreya's I-Can-Actually-Bake-Without-Setting-Off-The-Fire-Alarm Almond Cookies
You will need:
1 cup of whole wheat flour
1 stick of butter/margarine
3/4 cup of granulated sugar
1 egg
1/2 tsp baking soda
1/4 tsp salt
1/4 cup of slivered almonds
Roll up your sleeves, wash your hands, get your hairnet on, you know the drill (hahaha I don't really use a hairnet, but you can do so if that rocks your boat):

You will need:
1 cup of whole wheat flour
1 stick of butter/margarine
3/4 cup of granulated sugar
1 egg
1/2 tsp baking soda
1/4 tsp salt
1/4 cup of slivered almonds
Roll up your sleeves, wash your hands, get your hairnet on, you know the drill (hahaha I don't really use a hairnet, but you can do so if that rocks your boat):
- The original recipe called for one egg so I beat an egg and divided the liquid. I used half of the egg in my cookie batter and got rid of the other half. I don't know if this is necessary, hey go ask Karlie Kloss!
- Get two separate bowls. The first one should hold your dry ingredients, ie. the flour, soda and salt. Use the second one for the egg, butter and sugar.
- Cream the egg, butter and sugar together and stir in the dry ingredients. My advice: ditch the spatula and mix with your God-given kitchen essentials: YOUR HANDS.
- Preheat your oven to 375 degrees; it should take about ten minutes to heat up, so in the meanwhile continue mixing and kneading the cookie dough.
- Flatten little balls of dough into teeny circles (they will expand thanks to their sauna treatment in the oven) and place on an ungreased cookie sheet. Eh, if you don't have a "cookie sheet" just use a piece of aluminum foil or parchment paper.
- Stick your babies in the oven (oh my gosh, that sounds CRUEL) for about 8-10 minutes.
- Make sure to take them off the cookie sheet to cool on a cooling rack or platter before serving.
~Makes about two dozen cookies~
